Rendezvous
The WWBA holds two rendezvous each year:
Our Spring Rendezvous is oriented toward providing our members with a broad range of skills and knowledge that are required for maintaining and converting work boats for pleasure use. Work boats are large vessels with sophisticated requirements to keep them well maintained, safe and reliable. Retired workboats generally come without operating or maintenance manuals, resulting in a very steep learning curve for their new, generally land-based new captains and crew. The WWBA provides members with the opportunity to share ideas and experiences as well as obtain practical information from seasoned experts in work boats. Receiving expert advice from Cowichan Bay Maritime Centre, Silva Bay Boat School, and Abernethy & Gaudin, our association members have participated in workshop discussions related to boat building and repair, engine maintenance, electrical and electronic systems and boat stability.
After a summer of cruising and working on our boats, the WWBA members hold our Fall Rendezvous to visit with friends in interesting locations throughout the west coast, including Marinas, public wharves and marine parks.
For the public, a Westcoast Work Boat Rendezvous provides an opportunity to walk the wharves, meet the owners and learn about the heritage of work boats and their new lives as west coast pleasure vessels.
